CMDN is in the process of initiating genomic screening of medicinal plants as part of the initiative of Nepal Government to start focusing in Medicinal herb research in Nepal. CMDN is now part of a team to promote biotechnology in Nepal, with emphasis on natural product research. This Team was formed under the banner of Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Government of Nepal (GON). The first official meeting took place on July 12, 2010 at Ministry of Science and Technology, chaired by Joint Secretary of the Ministry. The team has been officially designated the title Biotechnology Technical Team and also includes Director of National Information Technology Center (NITC, MoST), Director-General of Department of Plant Resources (DPR, Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation) besides Country Director (CMDN) and Joint Secretary (MoST).
